Air India Upgrades Delhi-Melbourne Flights With Premium Boeing 777-300ER, Introduces First Class and Inflight Wi-Fi

Air India will deploy its upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on the Delhi-Melbourne route from Wednesday, introducing First Class suites, expanded Business Class capacity, inflight Wi-Fi, enhanced dining, upgraded entertainment, and access to the Maharaja Lounge. The airline will also increase flight frequency to daily services from September 1, 2026.

Air India has announced a major upgrade to its non-stop Delhi-Melbourne service by deploying its upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft from Wednesday, replacing the existing aircraft currently operating on the route. The enhancement significantly increases premium seating capacity while introducing First Class and inflight Wi-Fi connectivity for the first time on the Delhi-Melbourne sector.

Configured in a three-class layout, the upgraded Boeing 777-300ER features eight First Class suites, 40 fully flat Business Class beds, and 280 Economy Class seats. The new configuration marks a substantial increase in premium capacity compared to the Boeing 787-8 currently serving the route, which offers 28 Business Class seats and 241 Economy Class seats.

Air India stated that its First Class cabins will feature luxurious private suites equipped with leather-upholstered seats that convert into fully flat beds. Passengers travelling in First Class will also receive privacy doors, an elevated ground and dining experience, and personalised onboard service.

The upgraded Business Class cabin will also provide fully flat beds designed to offer greater comfort, space, and privacy. The airline said passengers will additionally benefit from improved onboard service elements aimed at enhancing the overall travel experience.

According to the airline, the aircraft upgrade forms part of Air India's broader investment in improving the end-to-end customer experience. Eligible premium passengers will also gain access to the airline's new flagship Maharaja Lounge at Delhi Airport, offering upgraded dining facilities, premium seating, and enhanced pre-flight services.

Air India currently operates four non-stop flights every week between Delhi and Melbourne. The airline is scheduled to increase the frequency to seven weekly non-stop services from September 1, 2026.

The airline further stated that the Delhi-Melbourne service offers convenient same-terminal connections through Delhi to several European destinations, including London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris, Rome, Milan, and Zurich. Air India also operates non-stop flights between Delhi and Sydney, enabling similar seamless onward connections to destinations across the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe.

The deployment of the upgraded Boeing 777-300ER marks another significant step in Air India's ongoing fleet and service enhancement programme, strengthening its premium long-haul offering while expanding passenger comfort, connectivity, and international travel convenience on one of its key global routes.
